GR Mitchell, Inc.'s History:

June 1, 1969, George Mitchell purchased the building supply business of I.B.Graybill & Son in Refton, PA . The business became G.R. Mitchell, Inc. The company supplied building supplies as well as coal, fuel oil & feed.

Railroad service was discontinued to Refton in 1972. It became expensive to receive coal supplies at a time when coal prices doubled. The coal business was closed. During the energy crunch and high interest rates of the late 70s it was time to sell the oil business. This took place in 1980.

Meanwhile the building supply business continued to grow. In 1981 the Refton location expanded its store and office facilities. In 1985, George Mitchell retired. His son, Steve Mitchell became the president. G.R. Mitchell, Inc. has continued to grow and expand its building supply products and services.

In 1990, G.R. Mitchell, Inc. Custom Millwork department began operation.

In 1996, G.R. Mitchell, Inc. moved the business to Willow Street. A new store was built. The retail store was expanded greatly.

In 2004 Steve Mitchell and Chris Grumbling joined together to start Finishing Touch Carpentry, to offer the service of installing many of the product G.R. Mitchell, Inc. sells. This company generally installs kitchens, interior trim, shelving and bath accessories including mirrors and shower doors, for our home building customers.

In October of 2005 G.R. Mitchell, Inc. began operating the Yorktowne Cabinetry Showroom in York, PA. This is another extension of the services G.R. Mitchell, Inc. strives to provide to you, the customer. With excellent customer service, G.R. Mitchell, Inc. continually works to earn your business.
